For local actors
No experience necessary
Have you ever imagined yourself on stage, or are you simply curious about acting? This is your chance! Our community theatre is a fantastic place to start, and we're looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our family. Don't worry if you've never acted before—no experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun! Auditions are a great way to meet new people, express yourself, and maybe discover a new passion. So why not give it a try?
How should you prepare for your audition?
First, read the 'Audition Pack' of the production you are auditioning for for the preferred audition format. However, most Mercury Theatre auditions are 'cold reads' - where an actor is asked to read from a script with little to no prior preparation. This allows the Director to evaluate your instinctive acting skills, how you work with others and if you fit a particular role.
To prepare, practice cold reading by looking at various scripts or books and reading them aloud without preparation. Focus on clarity, pacing, and expressive reading.
It might also help to familiarise yourself with the play, the genre, and any available synopsis or script excerpt. Break a leg!
