York Street is centered on the Murran family who live in York Street, Coorparoo, Brisbane.

 

It is a series of vignettes featuring real characters from the author’s family, in particular, his mother Sonya, whose early life set the stage for her career as an Australian trade unionist. I

 

This is a story of a young woman who refused to accept her world as it was, coming to understand the power she held to make change – change that has surely impacted many that came after her. 

 

The timeline begins in 1939 and runs through to 1942, involving the impact of World War Two on the local community.
